Principal's Award and Run, Jump, Throw Recounts

Today Jessica received a Principal's Award for her recount of her favorite activity at the Run, Jump, Throw Display.
Ka pai, Jessica, your recount is great, and here it is:

Yesterday we did Run, Jump, Throw. We had to line up first and the teacher told us what to do. She told us to march. My favourite was jumping in the sack. But before we did that we had to have a baton and run. When all your team had a turn you had to sit down. After that we got a bean bag and we put it on top of our hats. When we had done that we got an egg and spoon. We put the egg on the spoon and we ran. After that we got a sack. We had to put our feet in the corner and pull it up and run. That activity was my favourite because I like egg and spoon races.

Here's some more recounts:
(Come into the classroom and check out our Writing Wall for more recounts)

Yesterday we did Run, Jump and Throw. The long dash was my favourite because we had to run really fast. At the end of that we were quite puffed so we had to have a big drink. Only the Year 3 children did the long dash. Gabrielle.

Yesterday I did high jump. I had to jump and do a scissor kick. I had to run around the cones. High jump was my favourite activity because we had to go from green to blue. Finn H

I went on the high jump. I had to do a scissor jump over the bar. Zofia

Yesterday I did the high jump. I jumped over the bar with a scissor kick. I liked it because I was good at it. Sirayah

Term 1 Week 8 'Star of the Week'

This week's 'Star of the Week' is Neave.
Ka pai, Neave, it's great to have you in Room 5.

We had lots to celebrate this morning:

Yesterday Ariana turned 7. We sang 'Happy Birthday' and wished her all the best for the coming year.

Over the weekend Neave competed in a Highland Dancing competition. She received several certificates and a medal for coming 4th. Well done, Neave.

Samantha was presented with the Homework certificate for her outstanding sentences - she wrote some compound sentences. Ka pai, Samantha.
Kate and Mairssa also wrote some great sentences.
I am impressed with the way the homework has improved over the few weeks we have been doing spelling.
Thank you for the home support.

Important note for tomorrow - Tuesday 24 March:
The Run, Jump, Throw Display will start at 11:15am. Whanau are welcome to come along so we can show you what we have been learning. Children may wear sports gear - shorts, t-shirt and shoes - to school tomorrow.

Wednesday 25 March - Rice Day. We will be having a liturgy before being given a bowl of rice for lunch. This is to remind us that some children only get one bowl of rice to eat each day. Children need to bring a named, plastic bowl and spoon as well as a gold coin for Caritas.

Friday 27 March: Room 5 will attend the 9am Mass. Please have your child at school before 8:45am so we can take the roll and then be seated in church before 9am. Thank you.

Term 1 Week 7

This morning Room 5 lead the liturgy at the school assembly. The children were amazing. Kei whaha hihi ahau o kotou - I am very proud of them all for 'Stepping Up'.

Bree received the Special Character Award.

Bree, you are a kind and considerate class member.
You are becoming a confident, connected, actively involved learner.
taking responsibility for making the most of opportunities.
You are a positive role model.
Your attitude shows that you are ‘Stepping Up for Success’.
We are blest to have you in Room 5 and Christ the King School.

Finn H received a certificate.
Ka pai, Finn, we are proud of you.

Finn H is 7 tomorrow. As we will not be at school tomorrow we sang 'Happy Birthday' to him today and wished him all the best as a 7 year old.

On Sunday the Junior School will be attending the 9am Mass at Christ the King. Please meet outside Room 1 at 8:45am, wearing full school uniform. Children sit with their class and may be collected from the church after mass.

Today we practiced our Run, Jump, Throw in preparation for our Display on Tuesday. The children did a great job, especially considering that this is our first run through due to weather causing us to cancel previous practices. We will have another practice on Monday and the Display will be on Tuesday, starting at 11:15am. Whanau are welcome to come along and watch. You may like to bring a picnic lunch as well. Children will need to bring shoes and shorts on Monday and they can wear their sports gear on Tuesday. Please ensure your child has a water bottle as well.

The children are doing well with their spelling homework. Thank you for your support. The children thought they deserved a break from spelling next week, so there will be no words for the last two weeks of this term. Instead, please keep up the reading and aim to spend 10 minutes on Mathletics each night. During reading we will focus on plays. Children will be bringing their play home each night so they can become familiar with their part and how it fits in to the whole play. They do not have to learn their lines by heart as they can read from their books when presenting the plays.

Remember - if you have any questions or concerns, please come in and talk to me or send me an email. I know you want the best for your child and I do too.
