The Last Post - 2015

Room 5 on their last day of 2015
Another school year is over. It has been full of lots of exciting things and new learning. What an amazing group of confident, connected, actively involved learners these children are.
They've also been great teachers - of me as well as of each other.
Thank you for the privilege of teaching your children - my last class at Christ the King.
I will miss them.
Thank you, too, for your support throughout the year and for all the lovely gifts I have received.
I have been truly spoilt.

Have a happy and holy Christmas and a safe and relaxing holiday.

This morning we sang an early 'Happy Birthday' to Harriet, our only Christmas holiday birthday. Have a great day on the 20th and enjoy being 8.

Term 4 Week 10 - Year 3 Graduation Day

This morning we attended a graduation ceremony for the Year 3s. This was a special time when the Year 2s prayed for the Year 3s, the Year 3s prayed for their parents and we sang 'In God's Circle of Love' before the Junior School leaders, Kate and Joe, handed the leadership mantle onto two Year 2s.  Each Year 3 child was then presented with a special certificate to mark the end of their Junior School days. Morning tea followed - thanks for all the yummy food.
Parents, thank you for attending today's ceremony and for all your support this year.

Ka pai, Sirayah, it's great to have you in Room 5.

Five girls have been attending a weekly Writing Club. Today  Neave and Lulu shared the books they'd co-written. What wonderful authors they are.

Ginger’s Chair By Neave and Ruby
One day Lucy the little cat was sleeping happily on the chair. Along came Ginger, the fat cat. Suddenly Ginger hissed at Lucy.
Lucy woke up and notice that Ginger, the fat cat, was looking madly at her.
Ginger leapt up onto the chair and hissed at Lucy again. Lucy jumped off the chair and escaped from Ginger’s claws.
She raced up the steps to her cat door and dived through it.
Once she got inside , she was safe. She was smiling to herself.

The Cat that Can’t Climb Trees By Lulu and Harriet
Cute Cat was eating some food from Fat cat’s bowl. It was scrumptious.
Fat Cat cam running along and nearly pounced on Cute Cat but Cute cat sped away with Fat Cat right behind her.
Cute Cat climbed hurriedly up the tree. Fat Cat tried to climb the tree too.
Cute Cat climbed right to the top of the tree, but Fat Cat did not climb to the top. The branch was going to break!

Cute Cat said, “You can’t climb trees.”

Thank you for having your child at school early today so we could attend Mass. The children .were amazing during mass and I am very proud of them.

Celebration and Room 5 Writing

On Saturday Bree competed in a Rhythmic Gymnastic Competition. Yesterday she learnt that she came second. Ka pai, Bree, that is great news.

This morning we made popcorn in an electric frypan. We had lots of laughs as the corn popped out of the pan and onto the floor. Fortunately we didn't set off the fire alarms! We then wrote about what happened. Here's some photos, thanks to Kate, and some snippets of writing:

Bridget, Jessica, Harriet and Lulu

Patrick, Kempton, Jacky and Declan
The popcorn went pop, pop, pop! It was really funny. I was not expecting that. Marissa

We made popcorn. Once it sizzled it started to pop. It was popping like a cannon. I just wished that it flew into my mouth. Patrick

Mrs K-C put the kernels in the pan. We waited for awhile. Then it popped all over the place. Roisin

After it had all popped  Mrs K-C put it in a bowl. We got to eat it. It was delicious. Nicholas

Term 2 Week 7 'Star of the Week'

This week's 'Star of the Week' is Harriet.
Ka pai, Harriet, it's great to have you in Room 5.

We had lots of other things to celebrate as well:

Sirayah received her first Bronze Mathletics Certificate. Ka pai, Sirayah, keep up the great work.

Nicholas was named 'Player of the Day' after his rugby game. Ka pai, Nicholas, you played well.

I forgot to give out the homework certificates on Friday, so it was a long wait for the following: Neave, Bridget, Kate, Marissa and Samantha as well as Roisin who received the certificate. The standard of homework has risen and I am impressed with the sentences people are coming up with. You can have a break from spelling and sentences this week.

This morning our buddy class came to do some discussing and writing with us. This is in preparation for our character day next Tuesday (9 June). Last week you  received the Create a Character newsletter about this. Our buddies wrote some lists of characteristics of our made up character in our homework books. Please check the list to see what your child is planning to be. You are not expected to spend up large for this, but can use items you already have. If you have any questions about this day, please contact me.

On Thursday we plan to have our last hockey session (this is weather dependent). Please bring sports shoes and (girls) shorts to change into.

Ka pai, Bridget, we are proud of you.

Homework awards went to: Kate and Marissa, Neave, Samantha, Declan and Bridget. Ka pai for writing great sentences for your spelling words, some of them made me smile.

Last week Harriet was awarded the 'Player of the Day' cup for her netball team. Congratulations, Harriet.
Lots of exciting things happened today: At Discovery Time we can choose what we do. One of the most popular choice is the construction table. Today Zofia and Kempton spent their time making things to wear.

This afternoon we had our first hockey session! We all really enjoyed this new experience.

Tonight the school disco was held at the school hall. We all had a lot of fun. A special thank you to the Parent Council for organizing a wonderful evening.

Term 2 Week 4

Today concluded a very exciting week for us.
I am very proud of the way the children behaved on Wednesday. It was a bit overwhelming for some of them, but they kept smiling and did themselves proud.

At this morning's assembly Samantha received a certificate.
Ka pai, Samantha, we are proud of you.

Preston and Jacky also received certificates as they are 'Reading Recovery Stars'.
Ka pai, Preston and Jacky, we are proud of you.

Today is Zofia's Feast Day - this is a Polish tradition where people celebrate on the feast day of the saint they are named after. Szczęśliwy święto dzień Zofia.

This week's Homework Awards
Declan, Roisin, Marissa and Patrick
Harriet and Gabrielle

Today Neave had her dancing exam. She is a very good dancer and her exam card was full of 'very good' and 'excellent' comments. Neave performed a sword dance for us - minus the swords.

Unfortunately the rain caused the cancellation of this afternoon's hockey session. We still hope to have four sessions and plan to decide on dates next week.
Please have a look at the RE sheets from today's and yesterday's lessons and have a discussion about them. Please help your child to complete the sheets and bring them back to school ready for Tuesday's lesson.
Spelling homework is going well. Thank you for your support with this.
Enjoy your weekend.
