Term 2 Week 2 News

We had an exciting day today. This morning two librarians from the Christchurch Libraries came to share some stories with us. We all enjoyed the three books they read: Mix It Up, Use Your Imagination and and adaptation of Who Sank the Boat.
Ariana and Samuel helped act out tWho Sank the Boat..

This afternoon Leah took a dance workshop. Room 6 joined us as well. We warmed up with a couple of games before practising haka walking. Then we made up a four step dance to the words: Kia ora, ko our name ahau. Ak your child to show you their dance. Thanks, Leah, you are an amazing teacher and we can't wait to have you come and teach us again.

Term 2 Week 2 'Star of the Week'

This week's 'Star of the Week' is Nicholas.
Ka pai, Nicholas, it's great to have you in Room 5.

Congratulations to Roisin for gaining her first Silver Mathletics certificate. Keep up the good work.

This week is going to be busy with lots of different things planned. Today we held an ANZAC Liturgy. Tomorrow, Wednesday, we are having a Library Road Show presentation in the morning and after lunch Leah will be holding a dance workshop for us. Girls, please bring shorts to wear for this. On Thursday we will have our first session with Ms C, who has taken Ms O'L's place. Please bring your recorders. And on Friday we have a School Assembly at 12md in the hall.

This week we will continue with the ANZAC theme. In Religious Education we begin learning about the Holy Spirit with our focus being on the Fruits of the Spirit. Next week we start our Writing Focus and the topic for the rest of the term - Marae Protocol. We will fit in some reading and maths as well.

Thank you for your continued support with your child's learning - it does make such a difference.

Here's an ANZAC Poem - we wrote this together:

ANZAC Poem

The bugle wakes the soldiers in the morning
ANZAC Day is to remember the people who didn’t come back from war
Poppies are red, they remind us of the soldiers’ blood
We wear poppies when we go to the parades to show we
remember those who died in wars
Brave soldiers are awarded medals
Medals are worn at the dawn parade

Today the Junior Teachers had a planning session to prepare us for the beginning of our Accelerated Learning in Literacy Writing Focus. I am excited about this and I know we will see some fantastic writing coming from the Room 5 authors.

Term 2 Week 1

Welcome back to school. It was lovely to see everyone this morning and to catch up on the holidays. Sounds like everyone has had a good break. This is an eleven week term, so it should be a little more relaxed than last term.

Today we celebrated two milestones that occurred during the holidays:

Patrick turned 7 on 12 April, so we sang 'Happy Birthday' and wished him all the best for the coming year.

Lulu gained her first Silver Mathletics certificate - ka pai, Lulu.

This morning we wrote about our holidays. Here we are sharing our recounts with a buddy:

Ariana and Bridget
Finn C and Samantha
Lulu and Ruby
Patrick and Kate
This week we will be focusing on ANZAC Day and what that means. We will be reading a different ANZAC poem each day and this will be part of the reading homework. Spelling homework also begins again.
There will be NO school assembly on Friday as the Senior Syndicate is on camp at Hanmer Springs.

This morning we watched the recordings of our plays. I am having a few issues with uploading the videos to the Blog and with sending them by email. You can come into Room 5 next term to view them.

Thank you for your support this term, I have really appreciated it.
Have a Happy Easter and a safe and relaxing holiday. We will see you all back at school on Monday 20 April. Remember that children are to be in their winter uniform.

More Silver Smiles

Congratulations to Trinity and Marissa who have received their first Silver Mathletics certificates. It's great to see so many of you working on Mathletics to consolidate your learning and help you with your Basic Facts.

Over the last week the children have been working in groups to prepare plays. This morning they presented their plays to the class. For some this was a challenge, but everyone did an amazing job. I am impressed with how much the children learnt during this time and how confident they were performing in front of their classmates. Thank you for your help behind the scenes.
Next term we may be ready for a parent concert.
