Today we celebrated our school's Feast Day - Christ the King. We attended a liturgy in the church, then had a sausage sizzle for lunch - a big THANKS to the Parent Council for this. In the afternoon Room 5 and Room 12 took our scooters and bikes to Westburn Bike Park. We had lots of fun riding around the track then playing on the playground. Thanks Mrs A and Mr B for coming down with us. When we arrived back at school we were treated to an ice-block, A big THANK YOU to the Board of Trustees for this.

Next week we will be having production pracitces every day. On Monday we will attend Burnside High School's production, 'The Twits'. Monday is also library day. Please return library books so that a new book can be issued.

Have a great weekend - may the weather be kind for the Garden Tour.

Silver Mathlete

Congratulations to Bree who has gained her first Silver Mathletics certificate. Ka pai, Bree, keep up the great work.

The Year 2s learnt about static electricity this morning. We rubbed a balloon on a polar fleece then held it near our heads. The girls found that their hair was attracted to the balloon and stood up on end. The boys found that their hair was too short to stand up on end.
You will have to look closely at these photos to see the balloon attracting the hair.

Thank you to those parents who were able to come and watch our plays this afternoon. The children did an amazing job and I am very proud of them. The Year 3s are well prepared for their parts in the school production.

A reminder that we will be attending 9am Mass on Friday. Please be at school before the 8:45am bell. We are also able to wear sports clothes to school on Friday for the Young Vinnies 'Let's Get Physical' mufti theme. Please bring a gold coin donation for Caritas.

Term 4 Week 4 'Star of the Week'

This week's 'Star of the Week' is Roisin.
Ka pai, Roisin, it's great to have you in Room 5.

The Year 3s began tennis lessons today. They all enjoyed their session. They have two more sessions. While the Year 3s were playing tennis the Year 2s made ooblek. We discovered that ooblek can behave like a liquid as well as like a solid, depending on how hard you push your hand into it. Ooblek is made from cornflour and water.

Hot Air Balloon and Principal's Awards

This morning we had a bit of excitement on the tennis court. Jacky and Bree each received a Principal's Award for their recount of the adventure. Ka pai, Jacky and Bree, we are proud of you.

In the morning we got to watch a hot air balloon. We were excited. We had to stand on the white line because it might have been dangerous. We made the hot air balloon but it didn't work properly. I can tell you why - because the cotton wool was too close to the balloon. The teachers had to hold it. When it was ready the teacher put the fire on the cotton will. It floated up but it burned the hot air balloon. It was amazing. It burnt like an 'S'. Jacky

On Wednesday we went with Room 4 and Room 6 to the tennis courts to launch our hot air balloon. We used a naked flame, but when we launched it, it … well … it did go up but it burst into flames because the flame went up inside the balloon. It was amazing to watch. Bree

Celebration and Room 5 Writing

On Saturday Bree competed in a Rhythmic Gymnastic Competition. Yesterday she learnt that she came second. Ka pai, Bree, that is great news.

This morning we made popcorn in an electric frypan. We had lots of laughs as the corn popped out of the pan and onto the floor. Fortunately we didn't set off the fire alarms! We then wrote about what happened. Here's some photos, thanks to Kate, and some snippets of writing:

Bridget, Jessica, Harriet and Lulu

Patrick, Kempton, Jacky and Declan
The popcorn went pop, pop, pop! It was really funny. I was not expecting that. Marissa

We made popcorn. Once it sizzled it started to pop. It was popping like a cannon. I just wished that it flew into my mouth. Patrick

Mrs K-C put the kernels in the pan. We waited for awhile. Then it popped all over the place. Roisin

After it had all popped  Mrs K-C put it in a bowl. We got to eat it. It was delicious. Nicholas

Happy Birthday

Today was Samuel's 7th birthday and now that he is really old he needs his walking stick!
We sang Happy Birthday and wished Samuel all the best as a 7 year old.
In maths we are learning about symmetry. We have been exploring the different shapes we can make when we fold a piece of paper in half and cut along the folded edge. We know that both halves are the same. Come in and check out the wall display.
Here's some of us cutting our shapes:

We had lots to celebrate today.

Congratulations to Gabrielle for receiving a certificate at the School Assembly.
Ka pai, Gabrielle, we are proud of you.

Congratulations to Zofia for gaining her first Bronze Mathletics certificate. Ka pai, Zofia, keep up the great work.

This week's homework was of a high standard, which made it hard to decide who should receive the Homework Certificate. Congratulations to Samuel and Bree who did received the certificates and Roisin, Gabrielle, Kate, Samantha and Bridget who were also recognized. Hopefully we will see some of this work transferred into our writing.

Today we had the play 'Too Much Noise' presented to us by two groups. Both did a superb job and spoke clearly with expression.
Bridget, Natalia and Samantha
Samuel, Bree and Neave
Unfortunately this afternoon's hockey session was cancelled as the coach wasn't well. Hopefully she'll be better for next week.

A big THANK YOU for your support with today's mufti. Nearly $700 was donated which will be sent to Caritas for support in Nepal. Everyone looked great today, but unfortunately I forgot to take a photo.

Finally I'd like to wish all you amazing mums a wonderful day on Sunday. You certainly deserve to be spoilt.
